Living up to beauty

The way we see it, when you call something beautiful, you don’t just mean it looks nice. You also mean it was sourced responsibly from someone who cared, made well by its craftsperson, and part of something bigger than itself. This is as true of a dry-aged steak as it is of a pottery mug. Hands Please works hands-on, from the ground up, with beauty in mind. This is our life’s work.

Our values

Sourcing

Hyper-seasonal. Organic. Traceable. Humane. We rely on a small economy of farmers, foragers, ranchers, makers, and purveyors to bring the very best ingredients and wares under our roof. By doing so, we ensure that we can uphold a promise of pristine joy to our patrons.

Farmer relations

Trust lies at the heart of our connection to the landscape. We work only with farmers whose work we can verify and believe in—people who obsess about things like biodiversity, soil health, and humane treatment of animals. And we love the result: heirloom quality to share at the table.

Culture & community

Gathering places are the heart and soul of hospitality: the bar, the backyard grill, the tailgate, the café table. We believe most good things start between people who build together, often in these spaces. Nurturing meaningful moments and relationships is central to who we are.

Featured purveyors

Only the good stuff

We’re honored to source ingredients and wares from first-rate purveyors

Even Pull Farm

Started in 2014 as a micro-producer of organic vegetables sold at the farmers market, Even Pull has become the gold standard in Oregon wine country for beautiful produce and flowers. Hayward is proud to be the only restaurant for which Even Pull farms directly. Beth Satterwhite, Erik Grimstad, and Sabrina Beck are top-rate farmers and true friends.

Sarah Kersten Studio

Hailing from Oakland—a place near and dear to Kari, our Bay Area-native founder—this ceramics studio truly understands the confluence of beauty and function. We sell their wares at Lucky Duck: plates, platters, fermentation crocks, and more. Sarah Kersten Studio represents the best of busy hands led by the heart.

Pat-n-Tam’s

One of our key regenerative agriculture partners at Revel Meat Co., Pat-n-Tam’s provides us beautiful pasture-raised beef and pork. Their animals come to us whole, are butchered onsite, and then make their way into the Hayward kitchen as well as many other restaurants and home kitchens.

Limited Addition Wines

A standard-bearer of low-intervention winemaking in the Willamette Valley, Limited Addition Wines showcases the expertise of a certified Master of Wine guided by a category-defying spirit—in their work with more than 20 grape varieties from 12 vineyards. They say that with winemaking sometimes less is more. We say we want more of their delicious bottles.

Employment philosophy

Great hospitality starts from within. When you take care of the people doing the work—with respect, fair compensation, real opportunity, and a culture where they feel seen—that care naturally extends to every guest they serve. The best hospitality operations understand that the experience on the floor, at the butcher counter, or at a guest’s door is a direct reflection of what’s going on in the background. Hands Please values its people so that they can value those they serve in our name.
